Private Practice Essentials

19 February 2025

Mahoneys’ Partner Antony Harrison recently joined other industry experts to discuss business, financial, wealth and legal considerations when starting, running or growing a successful private practice.

The event – organised by Aurora Healthcare Australia as part of their Private Practice Essentials workshops – saw a room full of psychiatric consultants and registrars attend the Currumbin Clinic to hear from Antony; Benjamin Uprichard, Jodie Coy, Dr Tim MacDonald, Dr David Batten (Aurora); and Angela Jeffrey and Scott Montefiore (William Buck).

Specifically, Antony covered some of the important legal issues that need to be considered, including:
–     typical hospital/clinic models for physicians entering into private practice;
–     the risks and benefits of the various models; and
–     the importance of protecting personal assets from business risk.

A big thank you Joanne Levin, Benjamin Uprichard and Alix Irby for the opportunity to participate in the Aurora’s Private Practice Essentials workshops.

Mahoneys’ dedicated commercial team specialises in commercial, consumer and corporate law; commercial property; personal and corporate structuring; and estate planning, with specific expertise on how each of those areas of law affects medical specialists.

Feel free to contact Antony aharrison@mahoneys.com.au if you have any questions about starting, owning and operating a private practice.
